What is millimeter graph paper?
Millimeter graph paper, also called metric graph paper, is ruled with a 1 mm grid and heavier lines every 10 mm, so you can read measurements straight off the page. It is the standard paper for plotting experimental data in physics and chemistry and for drawing plans at scales like 1:100. On A4 with 10 mm margins the grid covers 190 × 277 mm.
What millimeter graph paper is used for
- Plotting lab results in physics and chemistry
- Technical and architectural drawings to scale
- Sewing and craft patterns measured in millimeters
- Measuring and comparing small objects

How to print millimeter graph paper at actual size
- 01
Click “Download PDF” and open the file in your PDF viewer.
- 02
In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”.
- 03
Choose the paper size that matches your settings and print. Measure one square or line with a ruler to check.
Millimeter graph paper: frequently asked questions
Will a 1 mm grid print accurately?
Yes, as long as you print at 100% (“Actual size”). The PDF is vector, so every line is placed exactly; very fine lines may look lighter on low-resolution printers.
Can I add bold lines every 5 mm instead of 10?
Yes. Set “Bold line every … squares” to 5 to get a heavier line every half centimeter.
Why are the lines orange?
Orange and red millimeter paper is traditional because pencil lines stand out clearly against it. You can pick any other color under Line color.
