What is lined paper?
Lined paper has evenly spaced horizontal rules that keep handwriting straight and consistent. In the US the standard rulings are wide ruled (11/32 inch), college ruled (9/32 inch) and narrow ruled (1/4 inch); on A4 paper in Europe and Asia, 8 mm and 7 mm spacing are common. A vertical margin line on the left leaves room for notes and hole punches.

Lined paper: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between wide and college ruled?
Wide ruled lines are 11/32 inch (about 8.7 mm) apart, college ruled lines 9/32 inch (about 7.1 mm), and narrow ruled lines 1/4 inch (about 6.4 mm). Wider spacing suits younger writers; narrower spacing fits more on a page.
How many lines are on a page of lined paper?
It depends on the spacing and margins. At the default 8 mm spacing an A4 page has 34 lines, and college ruled US Letter has 36. The preview shows the exact count for your settings.
Can I remove the red margin line?
Yes. Untick “Red margin line” in the Pattern settings to get lines that run edge to edge within the page margins.
