What is dot grid paper?
Dot grid paper replaces grid lines with small dots at each intersection. The dots are easy to follow when you want structure and fade into the background when you don’t, which is why dot grid is the favorite paper for bullet journals, planners and hand lettering. 5 mm spacing is the classic choice; larger 1/4 inch or 1 cm spacing is easier for beginners.

Dot grid paper: frequently asked questions
What is the standard dot grid spacing?
5 mm is the standard for bullet journals and most dotted notebooks. 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) is the closest imperial size, and 1/5 inch suits smaller handwriting.
How do I make the dots lighter or smaller?
Choose a lighter dot color, such as light gray, or a smaller dot size. If the dots print too faintly, go up one size.
Is dot grid better than graph paper?
Dot grid is less distracting for writing and drawing, while graph paper is better when you need to count squares or draw precise charts. Many people use dot grid for journals and graph paper for math.
